Carndonagh on the Inishowen peninsual of County Donegal is a thriving market town. At the edge of the town you can see a very fine example of an early Christian Cross, the Donagh Cross (photo below) which dates from the 7th century and once belonged to a Christian monastery founded by St. Patrick.
The secondary school in the town, Carndonagh Community School, was once the largest school in Ireland. One of it's famous past pupils is the playright Frank McGuinness.
