All around the county of Donegal are dotted ruins of old castles. Many of these old ruins whilst called castles would have been not much more than a large house in their time.
One of the most intact ruins was the ruins of Lough Eske Castle (pictured to the left here). This has now been restored and added to to become Solis Lough Eske, a five star hotel on the shores of Lough Eske just outside Donegal Town.
Of course probably the most famous of Donegal's castles (and certainly the most photographed) is O'Donnells Castle, more commonly called Donegal Castle, in Donegal Town.
