At the edge of the little village of Kilcar beside the road leading to Sliabh Liag (Slieve League), the highest seacliffs in Europe, sits the old church ruins of St. Matthew's.
The church was consecrated by William Knox, Bishop of Derry, on the 21st of September 1828 and was in use until 1964. In order that rates are not payable, the roof has been removed.
In one corner of the surrounding graveyard there is a grave of a WW2 soldier. See WW1 & WW2 Graves in Donegal.
