LOUGH DERG ~ Size approximately 900 hectares/2,000 acres Loch Geirg ~ Meaning "Geirg's Loch"
Firstly it should be noted that there are two loughs in Ireland bearing the name Lough Derg. This Lough Derg is in County Donegal, the second is the Lough Derg further south which borders counties Clare, Galway and North Tipperary.
Lough Derg, County Donegal is approximately five miles outside the village of Pettigo in south Donegal. The island in the middle of the lake houses St. Patrick's Basilica and the island is a place of pilgramage for many thousands each year. CLICK HERE for more information.
Fish available in the lough (lake) are: brown trout, pike, perch and eel.. Fishing boats are supplied by the local fishing club and permits to fish here are available from the Pettigo & District Anglers.
