SANDRA'S RUN 2023

Visitors to Donegal and particularly to south and south west Donegal might be wondering why there are so many teddy bears and other soft toys attached to trees, posts, fences, walls etc.  

The reason is that people put them out to support the annual 'Sandra's Run', a charity motorbike ride on the first Saturday each July, this year the 1st of July.

These men and women are not only enjoying a bike trip around our beautiful county but they are helping to raise lots of funds for charity, this year it's the Mater Foundation "The Mater Hospital Foundation makes a real difference to patients by providing services and funding equipment that otherwise would not exist.".  A donation will also be given to the Irish Pilgrimage Trust which takes children to Lourdes "The Irish Pilgrimage Trust brings children and young people with special needs on a week-long Pilgrimage Holiday to Lourdes each Easter."

Sandra was a young girl who sadly lost her battle with cancer on the eve of her 18th birthday and her parents, Jim and Rosaleen Boyle of Killybegs, have turned the terrible loss into a way to help others. 

Motorcyclists from all over Ireland, the UK and further afield for a great event that sees them do a run (it's a nice run out not a race) that covers a lot of south and south west Donegal and is quite a spectacle to witness ~ give them a cheer if they pass your way!
